Gharara

A gharara is fitted from the waist to the knee, then flares sharply outward from a horizontal join at the knee itself. That join is traditionally covered with a decorative band, often a gota in contrasting metallic work, and it is the giveaway: if you can see where the flare begins, it is a gharara.

Because the volume is concentrated below the knee, the gharara carries weight better than almost anything else we cut. Dense zardozi across the flare reads as deliberate rather than heavy, and the fitted thigh keeps the piece from swamping a smaller frame.

It also sits well. That makes it a strong choice for nikkah and for family functions where you will be seated a good deal — the flare falls cleanly around a chair rather than bunching.
